What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is the Scottish term for what many places call ‘Probate’. It’s a piece of paper you often need to get from the Sheriff Court so you can access the assets of someone who has died.
When is Confirmation needed?
Around half of estates in Scotland need Confirmation (Scottish Probate). Estates with a property or large amounts of money normally need Confirmation, but there are exceptions.
